Name: William Hill Central Coast Merlot 2018 Variety: Merlot Region and Country: Central Coast, California Year: 2018 Winery Review: The 2018 William Hill Central Coast Merlot is reminiscent of a bold Cabernet Sauvignon, with its rich flavors and substantial mouthfeel. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry and toasty oak set the stage for a palate of decadent black cherry, pepper and chocolate. Pair this wine alongside chicken dishes, pizza, duck, or your next charcuterie plate. Wine Folly Page 565: This variety has a strong black cherry flavor as well as a smokey chocolaty flavor. It is blended with Cabernet Franc in a Bordeaux blend. It pairs well with roasted meats and vegetables such as pork shoulders, short ribs, or mushrooms. Wine Folly recommends complementing the fruit note with chimichurri sauce. There are hints of cherry, plum, chocolate, dried herbs, and vanilla. France, Italy, and the United States are the biggest growers. My review: I paired this wine with a chicken dish an

Clos du Bois

Name: Clos du Bois Variety: Sauvignon Blanc Country and Regio n: Sonoma County, California Year: 2019 Winery Review: Pale straw, very aromatic, Meyer Lemon aromas and white grapefruit, gooseberry, delicate florals, lemongrass and grapefruit flavors with a hint of minerality, lively juicy fruit, crisp, long refreshing finish. This refreshing Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with light fare from all seasons—especially shellfish and salads. Wine Folly Page 759: A herbaceous flavored wine that is derived from a compound called methoxypyrazines. It pairs well with herby sauces, salty cheese, light meat, and asian food. This wine is characterized by a high acidic taste. You will get hints of passion fruit, white peach, grapefruit, honeydew, and gooseberry. France, New Zealand, and Chile are the leaders in growing this grape. My review: I was pretty indifferent on this wine. I definitely smelled and tasted the fruitiness that the label and wine folly mentioned, however it quickly disappeared afte

Artie Review

Name: Artie  Variety: Pinot Grigio Country and Region: Vino d’Italia, Italy Year: 2019 Winery Review: Meet Artie Pinot Grigio, a delicious white waiting to make your acquaintance. A smooth Italian Pinot Grigio singing with zesty citrus and lush stone fruit, Artie makes an easy-going companion for a variety of casual fare and fun. Wine Folly Page 667: This grape is a pink grape mutation from Pinot Noir. This is a versatile wine since it is used in the making of sweet to dry wines. This wine pairs well with white meats, seafood, and food with a hint of fruity flavor (for example a zesty lemon linguine dish). This grape has a shelf life between 1 and 5 years and should be kept in rather cooler rooms. Italy is the largest grower of this grape, with the United States and Germany as close runner ups. My Review: I have never really been a fan of white wine in general, however this wine had the perfect balance of fruitiness and dryness. I paired this wine with a shrimp scampi dish and it w

Alamos Malec Review

Image
Name: Alamos Malbec  Variety: Malbec Grapes Country and Region: Mendoza, Argentina Year: 2020 Winery Review: Alamos Malbec offers layers of dark cherry and blackberry and a velvety mouthfeel. Aromas of violet intertwine with spice and vanilla, while balanced tannins create a velvety mouthfeel and expansive finish. This Malbec delivers a complex fine red wine that pairs beautifully with a wide range of cuisine and goes beyond the expected. Wine Folly Page 534: Malbec is Argentina's most important grape variety, which came about by France, where they name it Cot. It contains a dark fruity and chocolate aftertaste. It is a great drink alongside leaner red meats as well as melted Blue Cheese. It is predominantly grown in Argentina, but also is grown in Australia in good quantities.  My Review: This wine had such a bold aroma before I even tasted it. I could smell the dark fruity component, but not so much the chocolate aftertaste. It was not until I tried it that I could taste the ch
